July 2012 - Fourth of July and Phi Phi Take 2

My two highlights from the month of July...

4th of July – So basically no one around me cared that it was the Fourth of July because I didn’t really have too many friends from America in Phuket.  But lucky for me, my South African friends thought it was a great excuse to have some fun so it ended up being a really fun night.  It was a Wednesday so it of course started at bottomless taco night in Kamala and then Megs, Lauren, Lauren’s friend Kate who was visiting from SA, and I headed down to Bangla Road to see what kind of trouble we could get into.  We ventured to a pingpong show because Lauren wanted to show Kate the real side of Phuket and I had never been to one so I finally gave in and figured I had to see one once before I left.  Needless to say, I should have had about 8 more drinks than I had had to be there, it was an experience that just can’t be described.  We continued to wander Bangla, buy obnoxious American flag shirts, and danced the night away at our go to -Seduction….

Lauren’s Farewell and Koh Phi Phi Take 2…  Sadly, we lost another friend from our group in the middle of July  =(  Lauren finished out her dance contract with the magician show she was dancing at and headed back to Cape Town….But before she left, of course we had to have an epic send off…All of our friends were there and we had a fabulous night pre-partying at a hotel in Patong and dancing the night away at Seduction.  I was so sad to say goodbye but I know we’ll be reunited in the future…

Soon after Laur left, it was Meg’s 25th birthday and Megs, Bron, Paddy, Libby and I headed to Koh Phi Phi to celebrate…You can never really have a bad time at Phi Phi and this time was no exception.  We stayed in a totally different spot than Nanc and I did previously and finally made the hike up to the amazing viewpoint.  Pizza slices galore, lots of swimming, sunbathing and an amazing Indian food dinner.  Bron and I also took a Sunday morning trek to another side of the island that she had heard about and it was like a completely different island than the side we were staying on.  Different kind of beach, beautiful resorts and not at all commercial like the main town.  I love Koh Phi Phi!
